Opaka was a Bajoran woman who would rise to become kai during the Cardassian occupation.[1]
She was a much respected spiritual leader who helped shepherd Bajor through the final years of the occupation. However, she did not get to enjoy much of post-occupation Bajor when she was called to by the Prophets to take a journey through the Bajoran wormhole into the Gamma Quadrant. While in the Gamma Quadrant she was killed on a prison moon and revived by artificial microbes. These microbes made her dependent on them to remain alive, effectively trapping her on the moon. She accepted her fate as the will of the Prophets and remained with the hope of bring peace to the warring people on the moon.[2]
