Template:Fanfic episode Foundations of Empire is a Star Trek: The Farthest Star novel that was started as part of NaNoWriMo 2014. The story follows Jonathan Masters early on in his career while serving on the Template:Uss.
The story was not completed during NaNo and currently there are no plans to finish it.
Synopsis
The small, but powerful Empire of Sabra sits on the borders of the United Federation of Planets and the Gorn Hegemony and despite the long courting by both powers has remained stubbornly neutral. On the eve of the final trial that will confirm the next in line to the throne of the Empire both powers send representatives to ingratiate themselves with the future monarch.
However, not all parties want to see the next in line succeed in their trial and a murderous plot is hatched that could see not only bloody conflict in the Empire, but between the Federation and Gorn.
