Corat Damar was a Cardassian Guardsman who served during the 24th century. He is most notable for his rise to the leader of the Cardassian Union during the Dominion War and his subsequent rebellion against the Dominion towards the end of that war.

Military service[]

By 2372, Damar had become a glinn and was serving on the Salgar-class freighter Groumall. In that year Skrain Dukat was placed in command after Dukat was demoted in disgrace for rescuing his illegitimate half-Bajoran daughter, Tora Ziyal. After they captured a B'rel-class bird-of-prey, Damar joined Dukat as he waged a one ship war against the Klingons.[1]

After Dukat's coup placed him as the new leader of the Cardassian Union, Damar became Dukat's right hand man. After capturing Deep Space 9 Damar was tasked with finding a way to bring down the minefield that prevented travel through the Bajoran wormhole. After months of effort he figured out a method, which saw him promoted to gul.[2][3]

After the failure to get reinforcements from the Gamma Quadrant and the Dominion started to evacuate Deep Space 9, Damar went searching for Dukat to make sure Dukat escaped that station. He witnessed Ziyal's admission to been a traitor and aiding the Union's enemies. Damar summarily executed Ziyal for her treachery but instead of freeing Dukat from her it drove Dukat insane and Damar was forced to abandon Dukat on the station. The decision he made haunted him.[4]

Damar was promoted to legate and made the new leader of the Cardassian Union.[5]

In 2375, Damar rebelled against the Dominion and forced the Cardassian Liberation Front. He was killed storming Cardassian Central Command on Cardassia Prime near the end of the war.[6]

Alternate realities[]

In an alternate universe where the Dominion won the Dominion War, Damar was elevated to leader of the Cardassian Union after Gul Dukat suffered a breakdown due to the execution of his daughter by the Dominion.[7]
